Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana, Reading Part B

It was a very interesting read. Especially, it made me think about emotional toughness when Kaikeyi refused to cry and even asked Bharata to refrain from grief and sorrow about the death of Dasharatha by plainly saying, "thou shouldst not thus give way to grief, my son.”

Bharata finally had enough with his stone-cold, tough, and purpose-oriented mother and told her, “I have lost my father and my elder brother. Of what good is a kingdom unto me now? O evil-hearted woman, thou hast bereft this house of all joy; thou hast slain my sire and banished Rama. But I will bring my brother back from the jungle; he shall be seated on the throne.” when he realized that Kaikeyi, his mother, did not seem to have any emotional capability besides accomplish her purpose.

From reading this very interesting story, I could tell that Bharata wasn't motivated by outwardly material things like power, throne, or wealth. He seems like he wanted to live with his brother Dasharatha without slaying each other. But, just like there is only one sun in the sky, there couldn't be two kings. One had to be ousted out, and it was Dasharatha, not Bharata who faced death. Bharata's mother Kaikeyi seemed to be a key player who wiped out Dasharatha.

I really liked the vivid and detailed description of what Bharata did for his brother during the funeral ceremony: Hearing Vasishtha's words, Bharata, cognizant of duty, bowed down to the ground and despatched the ministers for performing the last rites. And raising from under the oil the body of the king, with a sallow countenance and appearing to be asleep, Bharata placed it on the ground upon a couch in front, adorned with various gems.

It was also very fascinating to read about the special gold Sandals that somehow enables all the success and accomplishment. It sounded somewhat similar to Roman mythology which oftentimes has symbolic sandals.

Introduction to Peter the Real Estate Agent

Hi guys! I'm Peter, and I'm an OU student. I'm a junior, and I'm majoring in Communication. I believe I'm a very honest person, so I'm going to tell you why I chose to major in Communication. I honestly chose to do this major because I thought Communication would be a relative easy major. Nevertheless, it turns out that it is not! Some professors are tough and demanding, and there are lots of heavy reading, intensive writing, and several exams that I need to complete to earn an OU Communication degree. I still think Communication is a pretty cool major because I get to learn about many interesting effective communication theories. Because my major belongs to the College of Arts and Sciences, it has heavier emphasis on theory and research more than practice and application. Honestly, I don't really remember a "cool class" that I took last semester (I don't think I had any). Nonetheless, these classes, Myth Folklore and Indian Epics, ar...

Week 10 Story: Fierce Brothers (PDE Mahabharata, Part D)

Once upon a time, two fierce brothers lived who were managers of a Kansas corn farm. John, who was honest, scrupulous, and fair-minded, disliked cheating and liked to work with his son all throughout the year, especially during the harvest season. John was popular, so he had many followers and sharecroppers who genuinely liked him. In addition, the owner of the farm, who was an old man in his eighties, really liked John and wanted him to succeed his ownership once he died. There was another brother whose name was April. Unlike John, April was greedy, competitive, and was always determined to win. April disliked rules and often ignored the proper procedures when he was working on the farm. One day, April decided to cheat John out of excessive greed. April wanted bumper crops for himself and did not want to share as much with his fair-minded brother John. So April, along with his fellow crooked followers and sharecroppers, decided to revolt against John and his scrupulous follow...
